My name is Lisa Nicholls and I am a fully qualified accountant with over 20 years post qualification experience. In May 1996, I was the winner of the British Steel prize for the 3rd best result in Stage 3 of CIMA. With first time passes I sat my final exams in May 1997 and gained my full qualification the following year.  I have always been operationally focussed and develop a genuine interest in the businesses that I have worked for.

The major part of my career has been spent in the Waste Industry where I worked in all different areas of the business from landfill sites to commercial collection to hazardous waste recycling and recovery - each with very different ways of working and different challenges. Activities ranged from service provision through to production of recycled products. Whilst I have had the backing of large organisations, the business units within my remit were very much managed as small businesses with local operational managers taking ownership for the running of that location. 

I have a strong belief in continual improvement and I am always proactively looking to improve the quality of information collected and reported. I am naturally very process orientated and will always look for ways to improve efficiency with regards to systems and processes. I have worked on a number of projects to automate and streamline processes thereby saving time and increasing accuracy

My main responsibilities during my career include the production of monthly management accounts, development of KPIs, financial justification of new projects, implementation of both operational and financial systems, integration of new businesses, detailed budget preparation and presentation, staff management and development of business models.

Key achievements which demonstrate my pro-activity and the some of the projects I have been instrumental in are as follows:

  • Support to due diligence process during a Private Equity backed management buy-out

  • Design and Implementation of vehicle tracking database

  • Implementation of new KPI dashboard and design of data collection processes to facilitate

  • Design of time-sheet collection system to ensure clarity and completeness of data

  • Recommendation and implementation of process changes supported by improved controls
  • Development and stream-lining of management accounts working files with a resultant saving in the time taken to complete month end

  • Development of month end reporting schedules

  • Review of processes and automation of allocation journal posting 

  • Implementation of revised coding structure to faciliatate meaningful management reporting

  • Finance Project Manager for Implementation of Navision Finance package
